"You have to be willing to do what it takes to make the
resident feel happy. That is the key!"
As a server, my work duties include taking the residents' orders
from their menu, serving their selections and making sure they have
everything they need to enjoy their meal. Everything I do during my
time at work is important, but the most important thing is making
sure the residents receive good service, are happy and get
everything they need. You have to be willing to do what it takes to
make the resident feel happy. That is the key!

Aaron M., Maintenance
Technician, Dallas, Texas
"One of my favorite aspects of my job is
to work on the air-conditioning units because it expands my
knowledge of the HVAC field."
My work involves taking care of the technical aspects of the
community, including the plumbing and heating, ventilation and
air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. I also provide preventative
maintenance for different pieces of equipment in our community.
My daily activities are varied. I complete work orders for the
resident apartments and community areas. I help my supervisor
manage the vendors to make certain the projects are completed on
time and accurately. One of my favorite aspects of my job is to
work on the air conditioning units because it expands my knowledge
of the HVAC field. I value that I have a daily opportunity to
become familiar with building operations.
TidePointe, a Vi
Community

Renee M., Café Attendant,
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
"I always find time to laugh, smile and engage in a
pleasant conversation with the residents."
My work involves assisting our residents with breakfast in the
club room and also serving residents at lunch and dinner as well.
My daily activities are varied. While preparing the club room for
breakfast, I always set out the morning papers for the residents I
serve regularly. I also have their usual order waiting for them as
they arrive for breakfast. After that, I can be found setting up
for different activities held in our clubhouse during the day. This
could be bridge, board meetings or coffee breaks. After this is
done, you will find me in the dining room taking orders for lunch.
During it all, I always find time to laugh, smile and engage in a
pleasant conversation with the residents.
Classic Residence in Reno

"The wonderful people here really make a difference in
the residents' lives . . . I feel honored to work
here."
I have been working at our Reno community for almost five years.
I started working here as a server in the main dining room when I
was 17 years old and advancing my education at the local community
college. For two years, I worked in the dining room, getting to
know all the residents. I loved helping them with their needs.
When I got my nursing assistant's license, the Director of
Assisted Living asked me if I wanted to work and learn in the
assisted living residence part-time to see if I wanted to further
my career as a nurse. I worked in independent and assisted living
for six months, then totally as a caregiver in assisted living
while I was still going to college. I have been lucky to work here
as a full-time student. My supervisor is willing to work with my
schedule in order for me to pursue my education.
I am going for my registered nurse degree in college, and I took
this great opportunity to gain experience knowing that someone
else's life may depend on me. I really love my job in assisted
living and working here. The wonderful people here really make a
difference in the resident's lives both physically and emotionally.
I feel honored to work here.
