The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an association
that leads, connects and defines the active-aging industry, has
selected "The American Century" program at Classic Residence by
Hyatt senior living communities to receive a 2009 ICAA Innovators
Award. Since 2003, these annual awards have recognized creativity
and excellence in active-aging programs and products. Award-winning
programs target any or all of the six dimensions of
wellness-namely, emotional, vocational, physical, spiritual,
intellectual and social wellness.
Developed by the lifestyle enrichment team at Classic Residence
by Hyatt, a leading national provider of senior living, The
American Century is a senior living program that encourages
residents to recall memories in a setting that fosters collective
reminiscing and gives them an opportunity for socialization.
Together residents revisit both the historical and popular
experiences and innovations of the 20th century, decade by decade,
enjoying activities such as sampling era-specific foodstuffs
created by Classic Residence by Hyatt chefs, or engaging in
discussion groups exploring major and minor historical events.
"The American Century program gives our residents and their
families an opportunity to connect in a meaningful and enjoyable
way that truly makes a difference," said Julie Stevens, director of
lifestyle enrichment, Classic Residence by Hyatt. "The program was
rolled out at our Classic Residence by Hyatt retirement communities
this spring for both independent living residents and those living
in our care centers, including those living with Alzheimer's or
dementia."
"The lifestyle enrichment team at Classic Residence by Hyatt
provides an inspiring example for everyone striving to advance
active aging," says Colin Milner, ICAA's founder and CEO.
"Participating in The American Century program helps to enrich the
lives of older adults and enhance their health, wellness and
quality of life."
Classic Residence by Hyatt will receive a crystal award of
recognition from ICAA for The American Century program at the
upcoming ICAA annual conference in December in Orlando. In
addition, ICAA will publish an in-depth profile of this program in
its bimonthly Journal on Active Aging in the coming year
for the benefit of industry leaders and governmental organizations.
In the meantime, brief profiles of the 2009 ICAA Innovators,
including The American Century, are available online at http://www.icaa.cc/awards/pressreleases.htm.
