Vi To Celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day on May 25
Thousands of Older Adults at 19 Communities in 11 States to Participate
Chicago, IL -
May 20, 2011
More than 6,000 older adults who live at 19 Vi and Classic
Residence older adult communities throughout the United States will
celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day on May 25.
The activities, ranging from tai chi demonstrations at Classic
Residence in Reno, NV, a performance by Chicago's famous Jesse
White Tumblers at Vi at The Glen in Glenview, IL, to a presentation
by "Biggest Loser" contestant Sherrie Kreger at Classic Residence
in Dallas, TX, are designed to emphasize the importance of fitness
among older adults.
"Vi Likes to participate in this national celebration because it
is a great match for the kind of active, engaged lifestyles the
residents of our communities enjoy," said Julie Stevens, director
of lifestyle enrichment for Vi. "National Senior Health &
Fitness Day reflects what our brand and communities represent."
Vi residents will join with an estimated 100,000 seniors across
the country expected to help promote active, healthy lifestyles
through physical fitness, good nutrition and preventive care.
According to Stevens, "Our national celebration is a wonderful
opportunity for seniors to make, renew, and revitalize their
commitment to live healthier lives through better health and
fitness."
With more than 70 million baby boomers entering their retirement
years, experts say for those 65 and over staying active and fit can
spell the difference between independence and frailty. Older
adults who are fit are likely to have a better quality of life and
to live longer.
Organized as a public/private good health partnership by the
Mature Market Resource Center (MMRC), Senior Health & Fitness
Day will offer fitness activities for older adults at more than
1,000 locations including hospitals, park and recreation
departments, senior centers, health clubs, retirement communities,
houses of worship, health departments and other community
locations. The event is always held on the last Wednesday in May as
part of Older Americans Month activities.
