Vi at The Glen RN honored by Crain’s Chicago Business’ Notable Healthcare Heroes list
Vi at The Glen announced that registered nurse Marissa Salvaleon has been named one of Crain’s Chicago Business’ 2021 “Notable Healthcare Heroes.” The Crain’s list celebrates Chicago area doctors, nurses, EMTs and home health care providers who have served tirelessly on the front lines of the pandemic over the last year.
Known by her colleagues for her calm and caring demeanor, Salvaleon has worked as a registered nurse at Vi at The Glen since 2017. As a member of the skilled nursing team, she seeks to provide comfort and solace to residents, while also educating them about how to thrive when they are well enough to return to their homes.
In early March 2020, Marissa was approached to work in the COVID-19 unit at the community. Despite the unknowns and concerns of her colleagues, Marissa quickly volunteered. She not only agreed to work in the unit when it first opened but has continued to work for the past 10 months since the unit has been open.
“For the last five years, Marissa has served as a wonderful example of a nurse who entered into the career for all the right reasons,” said Steven Fowler, executive director of Vi at The Glen. “Her commitment to her profession and dedication to those in her care is unmatched. We are thrilled she has received this distinction to honor her hard work.”
“I am incredibly honored to be recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of this year’s healthcare heroes,” Salvaleon said. “I am thankful and humbled to have been able to provide support and care to our Vi residents and their families throughout the pandemic.”
To celebrate Salvaleon’s selfless approach to caring for others, she will be recognized as the Heart of Vi recipient in her community this year.
