Some of the area’s favorite delis and top caterers will bring their signature latkes and be judged by a panel that includes City of Aventura’s Mayor Enid Weissman, Sun Sentinel food writer Mike Mayo, Aventura Magazine publisher Michael Stern, and Jewish Journal editor Al Goch, among others. Vi at Aventura residents and guests will select the People’s Choice Award.
Not only will the winner earn bragging rights, but Vi at Aventura will donate $500 to the winner’s charity of choice.
“Our residents look forward to Chanukah every year, and this competition is a fun, festive way for them to join friends and family in celebrating the holiday,” says Renee Garvin, Vi at Aventura executive director.
Whether it’s the traditional variety like “Bubbe” used to make, or those with a more modern twist, there’s no wrong way to create a potato latke. They’re a delicious reminder of the story of Chanukah, the eight-day Jewish holiday often called the Festival of Lights that’s celebrated with the lighting of the menorah, games and gifts.
