When should you consider a move to senior living?

Senior living communities are vibrant, exciting places to live — designed for adults to continue enjoying retirement their way.

They’re all about adding life to your years: clubs and activities, cultural experiences and lifelong learning, delicious dining options, and more. All without the hassles of home upkeep and tons of bills to pay!

When do seniors move to a retirement community?

These days, most folks make the move to a retirement community or CCRC (short for Continuing Care Retirement Community) between the ages of 75 and 84.

Others move in even closer to the minimum move-in age, which at Vi is 62.

But when is the right time for you to take steps to make this move? That’s entirely up to you. (But since you’re here, you may be looking for a bit more guidance than that!)

It’s never too early to begin researching, while you still have the flexibility of choice in where you live.

The earlier you move in, the longer you have to take advantage of all the benefits and amenities that modern senior living offers. You’ll be able to keep pursuing your passions for many more years — with the freedom of a lower-maintenance lifestyle.

CCRCs offer an added benefit of having a plan in place for future care, including where you’ll receive that care and who will provide it.

Questions to consider about your senior living timing

Be sure to think about your needs today and several years into the future. You’ll want to be sure your living situation will continue to be a fit for the lifestyle you want, as well as your changing needs.

Here are some questions to consider as you sketch out a timeline:

  • Are you looking to explore new hobbies and skills?
  • Have you been craving more opportunities to make new friends?
  • Is your current home beginning to feel like more than you can (or care to) maintain?
  • Is the idea of cooking fewer meals increasingly tantalizing?
  • Would you feel better knowing there’s a team dedicated to your safety, comfort and wellness?
  • Are home obligations holding you back from traveling?
  • Hoping to spend less time pulling weeds and more time enjoying local museums and performances?
  • Does your health history suggest you may need more care someday?
  • Do you want to be empowered to make your own decisions about future care?

CCRCs like TidePointe offer residents the freedom, flexibility and fun of independent living, plus the added benefit of access to assisted living and skilled nursing services on the same campus.
