Training 125 Award Winner 2016
Training Magazine Ranks Vi as a Top Organization
For the sixth consecutive year, Vi has been recognized as a “Training Top 125” organization for its excellence in employee education by Training magazine. Rankings are based on quantitative and qualitative measures, as well as how organizational development programs align with business objectives and outcomes. 

The Training Top 125 were announced during a black tie awards ceremony in Orlando, FL in late February. Judy Whitcomb, Vi’s Senior VP of Human Resources, Learning & Organizational Development, said the awards ceremony was a prestigious way to acknowledge the focus and importance of training at Vi. 

"It is truly an honor to be recognized for the sixth year in a row by Training magazine,” Whitcomb said. “Each year, our goal as a company is to offer the very best in training programs to our employees and to become a leader in the industry.”

Whitcomb also added that Vi invests heavily each year in employee development, and works to provide superior educational opportunities for staff at all levels of service. 

“We believe that learning and development opportunities are the key to employee engagement, career advancement, improved performance, and tenure among our employees,” Whitcomb said. “This is also reflected in our employee and resident satisfaction survey results, and we believe engaged, content employees contribute significantly to overall resident satisfaction.”

Whitcomb also believes one of the reasons Training magazine has targeted Vi as a leader is the breadth of opportunity available to Vi employees. Brian Cleveland, Vi’s Vice President of Information Technology is one of those employees. Brian joined Vi in 1998 as the Director of IT with a very small staff. Recently, he completed Vi’s Breakthrough Leadership Program, a year-long training and development plan that uses experiential learning and mentoring to aid employees in becoming better managers. Cleveland found the program instrumental to both his current role at Vi, and to his overall career. 

 “Even for a long-time manager like myself, I found the program incredibly valuable, and chock full of insightful information, and successful strategies I can apply every day on the job,” Cleveland said. “I’m so appreciative to work for a company that values its employees and that truly cares about their development and does something about it.”

Cleveland, who was promoted to his current VP role in 2015, advises other Vi employees to take advantage of the programs offered at the company as a way to learn insights and successful strategies to apply to your day to day job.
