Memory Support

Compassionate care for residents with dementia

Memory support at Vi offers a comfortable, structured environment designed to enhance the social, emotional and physical well-being of residents with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s and related cognitive conditions.

Our soothing and relaxing residential settings are equipped with readily recognized memory cues that use sight, sound and aroma to help orient residents and instill a sense of familiarity. All of these tools have a purpose: to stimulate memory and provide residents with meaningful experiences.

Our licensed staff of compassionate caregivers are on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Support for families

Vi helps families with educational resources, including guest speakers, to help them learn about dementia and how it will affect their loved ones. Our care centers can also refer families to area support groups.

Services provided in memory support

Our memory support staff creates a customized care plan with specialized programs and services designed to meet each resident’s unique needs.

In addition to this person-centered care approach, we offer a range of services and amenities, including daily housekeeping service and laundering of bed and bath linens.

Even meal time is designed to be easier for memory support residents, with carefully selected, easy-to-handle menu items and tablecloths, napkins and tableware in contrasting colors to decrease confusion. Plus, all meals are prepared with care under the supervision of our executive chef at each community.

Life in memory support

Each private residential suite features a Life Story box to help residents identify their rooms and reminisce about their lives daily.

Common areas are designed to foster daily connections, stimulate memory and offer meaningful experiences.

Activities in memory support

We offer a variety of activities designed to engage memory support residents:

  • Walking, dancing and structured exercises to maintain muscle strength and flexibility
  • Montessori Method–based activities to support motor skills and concentration, as well as build self-esteem
  • Social hours for residents to share memories, tell stories and reminisce
  • Scheduled outings and activities

Memory support fees

Fees for continuing care residents

Residents who are contracted with Vi for an Inclusive Care (Type A) life care contract will continue to pay their independent living monthly fee after moving to our care center. Their monthly fee will not change due to the need for a higher level of care, but ongoing community-wide monthly fee increases will continue to apply.

Some Vi Communities offer the Fee-for-Service Care (Type C) option, where you have access to the care you need, but your monthly fees will increase based on standard market rates for the care services required.

Both care options are subject to extra costs for ancillary items and additional meals received.

Fees for spouses who remain in independent living

If a resident and their spouse are both contracted for life care at Vi, and only one resident requires a higher level of care, the spouse will remain in independent living while the other moves to our care center. If the resident has chosen the Inclusive Care option, both continue to pay only independent living monthly fees plus charges for additional meals and any other ancillary items received while in assisted living, as well as community-wide monthly fee increases.

If Fee-for-Service Care is the plan of choice, the monthly fee will increase to reflect standard market rates for the higher level of care, plus to cost of ancillary supplies and additional meals received.
